Mansfield died in a car accident in June 1967While traveling with three of her children, Marisca, Zoltan Hargitai and Mickey Hargitai Junior, to New Orleans from Mississippi.

All three adults were killed in the accident, but Hargitai – who was only three years old – had no memory of the accident.
